Apartment Styling Guide

Whether you're moving into a new space or simply looking to refresh your current one, the Home Style Co team shares 4 tips on how to easily style your apartment like a professional, and make it feel like home!

1. Know your measurements.

If not THE most important tip we can share - knowing the measurements of any new furniture pieces is extremely important to not only to suit your space, but to be able to safely make the journey up to your apartment!

Whether it be an elevator or stairwell, think this process through carefully to avoid the disappointment of a tv unit being too long to fit in the doors, or damaging any items on the way up.

Ordering items that come disassembled, investigating whether table legs can be unscrewed to ease access, or making the tough choice to pass on an item before purchasing will save you in the long run.

2. Start with a neutral base.

When it comes to apartment styling, starting with a neutral base for your furniture pieces can make a big difference. Choose a neutral colour palette such as warm timbers or black/greys.

This will create a blank canvas that you can build upon with colourful accents and decor and easily swap out as seasons and styles change in the years to come.

Neutral colours also make a small space feel more spacious and airy.

3. Incorporate plants & greenery.

Plants and greenery are a great way to bring life and freshness to your apartment.

Choose plants that are easy to care for and don't require a lot of sunlight, such as snake plants, pothos, or succulents.

You can also incorporate plants through botanical prints or floral arrangements.

4. Consider the flow of your space.

When styling your apartment, it's important to consider the flow of your space.

Arrange your furniture in a way that creates a natural flow and allows for easy walkways. Apartments can quickly feel small and cramped when incorrect furniture sizes and ease of walking is not considered.

Asking important questions such as; ‘Is there actually space in the doorway for an entry table to still enter freely?’, and ‘Can we still walk around the living area with a second side table, or will 1 suffice?’.

In summary, styling an apartment requires a combination of careful planning, attention to detail, and personal creativity.

By following these 4 tips, you can create a space that reflects your personal style, feels comfortable and welcoming, and meets your practical needs.
